We're Jeff, Matt + Kalen

and the three of us have been farming together for six years now...

Ask us how long it’s been and we might say it seems like yesterday that we got started, or that it feels like a lifetime together, depending on the day. Growing food together can be like building IKEA furniture together, and we’ve made it through some challenging times. We each bring something a little bit different to the table, but we’re united in our view that growing vegetables is our service to the world.

Jeff has been growing organic vegetables for 20 years now, and has a reputation for farming incredibly full-flavoured produce. Jeff understands that working in harmony with nature is the path to flavour, yields, and overall better quality food. Farming for the last twenty years in Canada’s most biodiverse region has given him the knowledge and experience to help revitalize this amazing farm property we now call home.

Matt came to farming a little later, after a former life in restaurant kitchens. Working with food has always been in his DNA, but he wasn’t feeling like he was effecting enough change in kitchens. He realized the potential for change begins at the literal ground level, in the soil. Matt and Kalen had grown their own vegetables for years, but hadn’t really considered a career in it. A desire to switch things up and try something new led Matt down the farming path first…

Kalen was the last to catch the farming bug, joining Matt in his second season working at Jeff’s farm in Gananoque. After a career in restaurants and catering, she knew how to work quickly and efficiently, and soon relished in the challenge of getting the most out of every farm day. Kalen loves to analyze and optimize each and every task and is always figuring out how to be harder, better, faster, stronger.

Together, the three of us make a solid team with some pretty hefty goals. We see the work of growing food as foundational to the world, we see the need for change, and we feel it is our job, and within our capabilities, to help foster that change.
